Tired of running to the nearest game store over and over, like some kind of weekly ritual? Especially for games that get fully boring once you beat them the first couple of times? Then they tend to sit around and gather dust forever after, reminding you of how much you paid - for so little?

That's how I was feeling when my teenage son began his weekly pleading session. Naturally, he wanted me to take him to the game store - again - to get some more games for his Nintendo GameCube because his (week old) games were boring him profoundly - again.

Of course, I retorted back with the usual barrage of rote parental responses, doled out when certain requests arise, including things such as, "Is your schoolwork done?", "Are your chores done?", and the ever-popular, "Get a book, kid.", but - like a lot of parents - I tend to relent after the fiftieth request and, as a result, quite frequently my son does get his way - within reason.

One weary day, however, I suddenly remembered how it came to be that I got to stop going to the video store downtown every week, saving me a bundle in late fees and gas costs, to boot. Good old Netflix!

My Search Began

Not being able to recall whether or not Netflix had games for rent, I did a quick search on their website and was disappointed to see that, alas no - they don't rent games online - only DVD's. I wasn't sad long, though, because I knew that somebody out there had to have an online game rental service available. A quick Google search proved me right when I turned up several online game rental services to choose from. I was thoroughly elated - if only for a little while, I might add.

After viewing the websites of about five similar online game rental services, I checked around the internet for reviews on the various choices I was considering. In the end, I wound up choosing the GameRang online game rental service because they seemed to have the best selection of games for the particular system my son owns, the Nintendo GameCube. (I know - not even close to the best game system on the market, but it works for him.)

I've gotta say, I really like my Gamerang service. I pay for it myself, and I really am satisfied with it; the help is extremely kind (I actually spoke to a human!), and I get the quickest turnarounds possible usually (3 days for me to send a game and get another back!).

I'm with you, Suzi! It would be a miracle if I could beat a game in a week - a year is usually more like it. LOL. I also agree that the price is too high when you're waiting a week for a rental to show up. Netflix is pretty awesome, though. My turn around time with them is normally 2 days during the week and 3 days if I mail them back on a Saturday. Much better than the long wait with GameRang. Now if Netflix would rent games, I'd be a happy camper. Ah well. Thanks for dropping in - I appreciate it! :) MZ

6 days is a lot when you consider how much you pay per month! If you spend an entire week just waiting for the game to arrive, you basically only have 3 weeks to make time using it. I agree also that they price is high. I never joined this OR netflix b/c I felt like if I'm paying a certain amount per month, I'd feel compelled to play constantly or watch movies constantly in order to get my moneys worth. Also - I'm not like your son, it takes me YEARS to finish 1 game ;) I get bored too, but I switch to others in my game library so none of them ever get fully complete, but that way I don't have to buy new ones very often.

I know what you mean, Melissa! After spending $50+ on a few games, I'd rather rent them, especially when you can beat some of them in a week - or even a month. It gets so damned expensive sometimes! MZ
