As summer begins, many people will plan outdoor activities such as swimming, picnics, and sunbathing. While these activities are an enjoyable and relaxing way to spend time with family and friends during the summer, the intense summer heat and UV ray index greatly increases the risk of developing sunburn. Sunburn is one of the most common causes of illness related to the effects of highly intense summer heat.

There are many products available for sunburn prevention and treatment. Some of the commercially available treatments can cost a lot of money. During the summer many people seek home remedy treatments for sunburn. There are many common household items which will help to heal sunburn and leave your skin with a pleasant natural tanned look.

If you have an aloe plant in your home, break or cut a small piece off, and rub the aloe juice on sunburned skin. The juice extracted from an aloe plant is rich in natural minerals and nutrients that will work to take the itch of sunburn away, and restore your skin from bright sunburned red to an appealing bronzed tan appearance.

Taking a warm bath of water and oatmeal will help to reduce the pain and redness of sunburn. The nutrients in oatmeal will dry the blistered skin, and renew moisture to give your skin a moist, naturally tanned appearance. Pour two cups of cooking oatmeal into a running bath of water as hot as you can tolerate. Soak in the oatmeal bath for ten minutes. When you finish your oatmeal bath, be sure to pat your skin dry with a gentle cloth towel. Bathe in an oatmeal bath for three days to heal your sunburn. Oatmeal baths are also excellent for treatment of poison oak, poison ivy, and poison sumac.

For quick relief of the burn and irritation of sunburn, take a warm bath of vinegar. Combine two cups of vinegar in a tub of warm to hot water (based on the temperature your body can comfortably tolerate). Once you get in the tub, soak your entire body for five to ten minutes. After you finish your vinegar bath, be sure to gently dry your body with a soft towel. This treatment works to relieve sunburn within two or three days.
