The Chicago White Sox are a professional baseball team that plays in Major League Baseball. The White Sox play in the Central Division of the American League.

The franchise started in 1893 as the Sioux City Cornhuskers. From 1894-1900, the team was known as the St. Paul Saints.

In 1900, the franchise moved to Chicago and became the Chicago White Stockings. Prior to the 1904 season, the team changed its name to the Chicago White Sox and has kept the name since.

During the franchise's time in Chicago, the White Sox have played in three different locations. They have played home games in South Side Park, Comiskey Park, and U.S. Cellular Field.

During the 1968 and 1969 seasons, the White Sox also played some of their home games in Milwaukee at Milwaukee County Stadium.

The White Sox have won four Division titles in franchise history. They won the West Division in 1983 and 1993, and they won the Central Division in 2000 and 2005.

The franchise has won the American League six times in 1900, 1901, 1906, 1917, 1919, 1959, and 2005.

The Chicago White Sox have won the World Series three times in 1906, 1917, and 2005.

Former members of the franchise who are currently in the Hall of Fame are Luis Aparicio, Luke Appling, Chief Bender, Steve Carlton, Eddie Collins, Charles Comiskey, George Davis, Larry Doby, Hugh Duffy, Johnny Evers, Red Faber, Carlton Fisk, Nellie Fox, Clark Griffith, Harry Hooper, George Kell, Bob Lemon, Al Lopez, Ted Lyons, Edd Roush, Red Ruffing, Ray Schalk, Tom Seaver, Al Simmons, Bill Veeck, Ed Walsh, Hoyt Wilhelm, and Early Wynn.

The Chicago White Sox have retired nine numbers. The players whose jersey numbers have been retired are Nellie Fox - 2, Harold Baines - 3, Luke Apppling - 4, Minnie Minoso - 9, Luis Aparicio - 11, Ted Lyons - 16, Billy Pierce - 19, Jackie Robinson - 42, and Carlton Fisk - 72. Robinson's number is retired throughout baseball.

The number 35, which was worn by Frank Thomas during his career with the White Sox, has not been worn by another player since. It is believed that the number may be retired by the White Sox once Thomas retires from baseball.
