Maintaining good credit is very important for financial stability. People who maintain good credit have established a good credit history with proven record of making at least the minimum payment on time. This has to be done by or before the due date, and staying within their credit limits. Many have learned to control their purchases and resist temptation of applying for more loans or credit then they can handle. According to the Federal Citizen Information Center (FCIC), there are several positive ways you can keep and maintain good credit history.1. Open a checking account and a savings account, these give evidence that you have money and know how to manage it, Canceled checks can be used to show payment on utility bills, rent, etc, as a sign of reliability bureau.
2. Get a secured credit card, A secured credit card is a bank credit which is backed by money you deposit in the bank account. If you do not pay off your credit card bill, the money in your account may be used to cover the debt.

4. If you are turned down for credit. It is important to clear up any negative information on your credit file. Your credit file in important, so be sure all three credit bureau records are complete and accurate annually.

* Watch where you borrow

* Get help as soon as you need it. (Consumer Credit Counseling Services) order you free credit report from all three bureaus yearly.
If you have been denied credit, employment or insurance because of the information on your credit report, you must receive conduct information from the credit bureau that supplied the information. If you contact the bureau withing 60 days you can receive a free copy without penalty or fee. Review your credit report make sure everything is accurate, if it's not contact the bureaus by writing and explaining your situation.
