South Carolina news station WISTV has done an investigation on an assisted living center called Peachtree Manor in Winnsboro, S.C., approximately eight months after the death of a resident. Disturbing documents were found, showing residents swallowing razor blades and employees sleeping on the job.The view on a warm day appears serene: residents all resting outside Peachtree Manor, enjoying a beautiful day. However, Monday afternoon, the serenity was broken by a resident breaking a window. She told authorities she was attempting to escape the inhumane behavior she was receiving.
A medical professional who has visited Peachtree Manor, who requested to remain anonymous, stated that she has seen horrible conditions. However, at Peachtree Manor, she claims that the air conditioning is terrible; it's cooler outside than it is inside; the staff are not giving their patients the medications they need; the patients are not being fed well; the smell of urine and feces overcome the senses when you walk in the door at Peachtree Manor.
This woman claims it is no surprise that residents of Peachtree Manor are attempting to escape. She says "I wouldn't even take my dog there," according to WISTV.
Throughout their investigation, WISTV uncovered more than thirty reports of complaints filed by residents of Peachtree Manor. The desperation of Peachtree Manor residents is terrible; some are able to merely walk away from the home, while others attempt to commit suicide to escape the treatment they receive.
David Donnelly Junior, the owner of Peachtree Manor, consented to a phone interview with the news reporter. When asked about the allegations of neglect brought against Peachtree Manor, Donnelly refuses to address any of these allegations.
He was then asked to comment on why DHEC suspended his license. Donnelly's only response was that "everyone is lying but me," according to WISTV.
