When you think of the ideal summer getaway, Utah is not exactly the first place that comes to mind. Sandy beaches, warm oceans, and cruises bound for exotic destinations seem to be the typical hot spots. Generally known only as a winter wonderland and for its abundance of winter activities available
(the "best snow on earth" is the state's claim to fame), it may come as a surprise to many that Utah is quickly becoming a destination for summer jet setters.
Home to some of the most diverse environments in the continental U.S., Utah has something for everyone. If you are into water sports, Utah has two of the best lakes in the country. Bear Lake, situated high in the picturesque mountains of northern Utah, has been a favorite retreat of locals for years. With white sandy beaches and clear, turquoise water, Bear Lake is atypical of its mountain surroundings. The remarkably clean and clear turquoise water is formed by the natural limestone calcium carbonates found in the lake. Located in southern Utah near the Grand Canyon, Lake Powell has become famed for being America's most popular houseboating destination. The lake boasts nearly 2,000 miles of shoreline amid spectacular red rocks. Water skiing, jetskiing, and boating are just a few of the numerous water sports available.
For true outdoor enthusiasts, the Wasatch mountains offers great summer hiking, camping, mountain biking, and four wheeling throughout Utah's 40 plus state parks. The water parks Seven Peaks and Raging Waters are perfect for cooling down on those scorching July days and Lagoon Amusement Park offers fun for the whole family seven days a week. Beautiful golf courses can be found throughout the state, including the renowned Thanksgiving Point Golf Course and Coral Canyons Golf Course in St. George and June through September is rodeo season, a favorite pastime here in Utah. And for those into extreme sports, hang gliding, bungee jumping, and skydiving are available as well.
