Mel Gibson is an absurdly talented actor and director. Twinkly laughing, seductive eyes. A catchy laugh. A few tools short of the shed when it comes to his religious beliefs.

It is a shame that he can't stay consistently sober. Not only was his last relapse with alcohol put all over the news and tabloids but it also emphasized what comments he made while he was drunk! They were racist and brought to mind warped religious beliefs. He went on television to apologize. That's humiliation enough.

How many of us go on national television to say "Sorry I said a bad thing?"

It doesn't change his creativity, work ethic, entertainment he has given us all, or vision.

So how about forgiving Mel? His comments were horrendous, yes, however I know many other celebrities who have made just as many mistakes...Hugh Grant to bring up one example. Hugh has been forgiven. Maybe people expect more from Mel. If so, let him fall off the pedestal. He is a human being like the rest of us.

What does a celebrities personal life have to do with the average consumer? Sure it matters, but not to the extent that media has made it. He put his foot in his mouth when he didn't have good discipline about what was coming out of it. Okay, it's done and over with and let's just let the man do his job. How about it?

You're right that not many people would publicly apologise like that. Sophie
