East Harbor has been in business for quite awhile. I've been in this area for over 20 years, and they have operated out of the same storefront the entire time. The restaurant used to be called Abacus, but the name was changed to East Harbor a few years ago. However, the food is very much the same. The owner seems to be the same person as well: Chef Chu.

I am a conosseur of fine food, and East Harbor is one of the best Asian restaurants I've ever been to in the Bay Area. We have so many Asian restaurants here, and many are delicious, but East Harbor is one of the best. Definitely in my top 10.

They have everything one could want from a Chinese restaurant. Their service is fast, their waitstaff friendly, and their food delicious. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very calming. It's quiet and well-lit, with many plants and Chinese art on the walls. It looks a bit upscale, but the prices are very reasonable. You can expect each person to eat there for about $5-$10. Portions are generally very large, particularly with takeout. One entree should be enough for one large person, and could probably even be split between two small appetites. One of the few flaws with the place is that their staff doesn't speak English too well - however, the owner has excellent English, and he is almost always around.

They also provide delivery service at no extra cost, which is a great benefit if you work in the Hayward area and can't take time away from your desk.
