A to Z Guide for Increasing Pageviews: K is for Kick Them Where it Hurts

One of the best ways to increase page views is to "kick them where it hurts." No, I don't mean that you should go around and kick people where it hurts until they give you page views.

Kick them where it hurts through your headlines, your topic selection, and your writing. Watch page views soar.

Take a topic and berate it, dismantle it, turn it inside out, step on it, question it, chastise it, and don't hold back.

There are many different ways you can "kick them where it hurts" in articles and increase page views. One way is to take something they love and pummel it with your mighty words.

How? Take a popular web site for example, like MySpace, and write something negative about it. I really hate to pick on MySpace, but it's a good example because most of you know what MySpace is.

You don't have to actually hate it, or even been slightly annoyed by it, just take something beloved and popular and take it down. For fun. And for page views.

You could also write about popular foods, cars, and gadgets and do the same.

Another way to "kick them where it hurts" to increase page views is to take a well-accepted premise and question it. The premise can be anything, as long as it is something that everyone already knows.

"Did Dinosaurs Really Exist?"
"What if Trans Fat is Actually Good for you?"

Be prepared to back up your opinions, if you choose to state something totally outrageous. You can always find some facts backing up an argument from any angle. (I learned that one while writing corporate newsletters).

Another way to "kick them where it hurts" and increase page views is to write about popular items and explain why they are a waste. Go for the marketing favorites of time and money.

"10 Ways Yahoo! Mail Wastes Your Time"
"5 Ways Your iPod is Costing You Money"

Writing about people's time or money are two sure-fire ways to get their attention. Attaching a monetary deficit or time value to a service or product will compel them to click on your article, and increase page views.

This is a really good idea. I'm going to go and slander some popular sites.
