June 27, 2007 marks the end of an historically long and at some times highly divisive reign by Britain's Tony Blair as the Prime Minister of the British House of Commons. Blair has served as head of the Labor party and PM for more than 10 years and longer than any other Labor Party Prime Minister in history. Still stepping down for Blair is unlikely to mean being farmed out to some kind of retirement village for men of accomplishment. Blair is only a sprightly 54 and some say looks even younger. Here is a man with more chapters yet to be written in his professional life. That said is it likely that Tony Blair is ready to be a Mid-East peace envoy?

Whose Idea is this Anyway. When Tony Blair announced some time ago that he would be resigning as PM in June of 2007 naturally political prognosticators began immediately to sound out Blair to discover what his follow up vocation might chance to be. Blair, always enjoying both the spotlight and the chance to bedazzle was considerably less than forthcoming. Speculation has continued as to the possible directions this intelligent, well spoken , British Prime Minister may next pursue. Most recently he suggestion has been floated by none other than President Bush that Tony Blair would make an excellent peace envoy to the Middle East. Bush's suggestion doesn't necessarily mean that Blair is either willing or ready for such a task. The question many thoughtful Americans and British must ask is , is Tony Blair a Good Choice for Mid East Peace Envoy.

Takeaways
  • Tony Blair has resigned as British Prime Minister.
  • It has been suggested that he serve as a Middle East peace envoy.
  • His close relationship with George Bush would seem keep him from appearing neutral.
Did You Know?
Tony Blair, like Bill Clinton, leaves office at the comparatively young age of 54.
