I just wrote an article about whether or not it is worth it to purchase organic food. I somewhat agree that Wal-Mart may not be the best choice to shop for organic food due to their poor ethics and unfair trade. I think that buying organic food is one thing, but we don't want to support bully coorperations. So, that is a bit of a dilemma. I'm a bit torn there, but I think perhaps it's not such a bad thing to offer this organic food to the Wal-Mart shopping crowd because it may force an unexpected awareness of what this particular crowd of hard-working middle class people should and could be providing for their families. All we can do is hope.

Everytime I've walked through Wal-Mart there's always a rack of donuts, cookies, cakes, sweets, pop, and chips situated almost strategically near the clothing area, near the school supplies...just about every turn leads you into some sort of unhealthy temptation. Parents are walking their children through those aisles and pretty soon there's a tantrum going on "I want cookies!" and rather than be embarrassed by a screaming child, they put them in the cart.

We already know how many of these middle class people are overweight. They don't have money to spend, and one has to wonder how they manage to tip the scales on a budget like that? It's pretty astounding. Is this lack of education, is this laziness, is this just a poor gene pool? Obesity has to do with so many factors, but I think at least one of the key factors may be the inexpensive prices of fast food, quick meals, microwave dinners, frozen fried chicken, un-healthy snacks i.e. chips, cookies, donuts, pop...and the more expensive prices of healthier whole foods like fruits and vegetables and raw chicken, and turkey, fruit juice, nuts, etc. That's a big problem.

Takeaways

Marc's has a growing selection of affordable organic food and you don't have to worry so much about the whole negativity of Wal-Mart. I read further into this deal with Wal-Mart's organics, and it upset me to hear that they may be scheming to change the standards of the USDA's certified organic seal in order to sell cheap not quite organic foods with the label. The organic industry is a booming industry, and Wal-mart, just couldn't help but dive in...Unfortunately they are jeopardizing the nature of real whole foods small business. Thanks for the comments.

Good article. I've been considering buying organic food, I'm just not sure where here has it.

This made a good read. Another good place to shop for reasonable organic food is Trader Joe's. I have yet to check out Walmart's selection.
