It has been some time since Marilyn Manson released a new album and the band itself has seen some changes over the long course of projects. Now on his new album EAT ME, DRINK ME, the "band" isn't really even there with Marilyn Manson and Tim Skold being the only credits for all of the music.

This smaller production seems to come across in the sound which once again gives Manson a different sort of album from his previous ones, which is what makes him an interesting artist as opposed to a generic one sound cash machine. His experimenting however always comes with his same distinctive vocals and enough familiarity to keep the hardcore fans feeling like they are still in touch with the icon from previous works that may have influenced them.

A high profile divorce from Dita Von Tease and love affair with his new flame, younger actress Evan Rachel Wood led to speculation that this album might not even come out. Manson even disappeared for some time when it came time for his legal papers to be served, but it seems he was secluded in the recording studio. The songs on this album are not happy in nature per-say though some of them do deal with the subjects of new love as well as old.

Album to album sees a new incarnation of the artist Marilyn Manson and this is yet another with the album art being more of a makeup laced, posing sort of affair that looks blatantly like someone trying to sell themselves in the Emo and whine rock market of today. I think this album will appeal to some of those very kids and hopefully drive them to listening to Manson's older works because the power of real rock needs to be brought back. This is not a ballsy, heavy album, but a lighter guitar driven one with a few too many pop hooks and jingles mixed into the over dramatic goth vibe.

1. IF I WAS YOUR VAMPIRE - An immediate hook and opening song. This is the rambling tragic sound of Marilyn Manson with a chorus line that gets stuck in one's head regardless of whether they find the song totally listen able or original. A sort of tone setter for the album to come.
