The 2006 NFL season was filled with excitement, as its finish resulted in a long awaited Super Bowl victory by the Indianapolis Colts. Peyton Manning, Marvin Harrison, and Brandon Stokley finally were able to win the big one. Coach Tony Dungy overcame many challenges, including the death of his child in the previous year, to become the first African American man to deliver a Lombardi Trophy to his team. Roger Goodell replaced Paul Tagliabue as NFL Commissioner, and cracked down on players who failed to adhere to the league's codes of conduct, including players such as Cincinnati's Chris Henry and Tennessee's Pac Man Jones. The Denver Broncos had two of their players pass away, which involved a drive by shooting and a collapse in a charity sporting event. Coaching changes were numerous, and teams such as New Orleans and San Diego geared up on the off season for another run at the big prize.

The 2007 season should be a lot of fun. The recent NFL Draft displayed that a lot of teams are now focusing on youth, instead of free agency to fill their major needs. Oakland picked Jamarcus Russell #1, to help rookie coach Lane Kiffin restore this once proud franchise's place in the league. The Lions picked another wide receiver, and the Dolphins and Titans draft moves had a lot of people scratching their heads. New England surprised many, by flexing their financial muscle, and signing stud LB Adalius Thomas. Many were further shocked by their trade for Randy Moss, who is eager to prove his ability, while avoiding any character issues that have maligned him in the past. Many teams such as New England, which have been successful for years, will continue to have productive seasons that will have them in contention for a Super Bowl appearance. Young and hungry teams like the New York Jets and San Francisco 49ers, will push for a place at the table. This is going to be a great season, with a lot of twists and turns, and here are some fearless predictions on what to expect.

"The New England Patriots will defeat the New Orleans Saints 31-17." I think this prediction is too vague and general. LOL!

Love the play on Denver, and I also think they'll do quite well. Should win the division, and might go deep in the playoffs. What I noticed that you neglected entirely was schedule strength. If you look at it, the Ravens had one of the softest schedules last year, and one of the toughest this year. I'm going out on a limb and saying that they don't make the playoffs. Pittsburgh and Cinci are too tough. Great article overall.

I guess we'll see if Pierre knows what he's talking about, but I just don't see the Broncos in the Picture...Pats/Saints is a much stronger pick than Broncos/Eagles - if the Pats are overrated because they have Randy Moss, I'd love to see why the Broncos will surprise "many."

For once this year I thought I was reading the best predictions....until I saw your Super Bowl picks. The saints still dont have a defense and the patriots are so overrated because they have Randy Moss. The Eagles will beat out the Seahawks in the NFC, and the Broncos will suprise many and rally past the Colts. In the end, Champ Bailey and Dre Bly will terrorize McNabb and will walk away with a super bowl win, 27-23

Good call on the 'Aints in the bowl...they got absolutely blown out by the Colts. The Panthers will win that division. Think Eagles or Bears for the Superbowl, not the Saints.

You put a lot of emphasis on coaches.

Very nice article. I wholly disagree, however with your analysis of the Rams.. Bulger is certainly among the elite in the NFL, and Jackson and Faulk are simply two different types of backs. Jackson is one of the best backs currently in the NFL. The Rams will not be in the cellar. Over all, fantastic article though!

Thanks Jerrad. That should be quite an interesting battle, to see who will actually come out on top there. Mike
