To make sure you 'don't get me wrong:' read this all-the-way-through before responding.I am in-no-way 'suggesting' that any responsibilities should be taken, I'm just observing that these are the responsibilites that are taken.

Firstly, the responsibilities of Xomba's publishers: they've set the program to notify us of comments and -responses to our comments and -responses. That is a good thing; it makes Xomba good for writers to use to learn a) what topics 'push people's buttons today' and b) how writers understand your writing.

However, that (plus the 'reviewing of flagged content,' whether readers complain about the content because it breaks G-Money Rules or just rules of logic and -morality) is the extent of their responsibility-they don't do anything if you include disgusting content if no one complains, nor if you copy content from any site you link to (as long as you make clear that you get the content from the link).

The responsibilities of AssociatedContent (AC)? If you ask for them to 'buy' your content, they base the publication decision on 'whether they would publish on that topic' (not necessarily 'if they agree with you,' but rather 'if you intelligently deal with something they would deal with'). So that assumes more responsibility for the content-quality than Xomba's 'Natural Selection'-method.

But AC only notifies you if your content is commented on (along with the 'messages you're sent' and the 'buddies you're asked to add')-not if your 'comments' are commented on-so the writer of the original article is given 'the final say.' But only if the article writer posts another 'reader's comment' to the article, because-once an AC-article is 'published'-only AC's webmaster can change it, and then only by deleting it (or maybe changing the title, with expressed-permission of you ... the Content Provider).

Takeaways
  • Xomba is for conversational writers.
  • AssociatedContent is for absolute-statement writers.
  • It pays better to be both kinds of writer.

Of course you haven't heard of Zomba; *I* haven't heard of Zomba. IT'S 'XOMBA!' If we were generation Z, then MAYBE it would be Zomba; but 'X' is what we are!

Great comparison. Hadn't heard of Zomba before I am now curious.

But please do remember the 'X'; It's Xomba (it may be "pronounced" 'Zomba,' but 'X' is a way-cooler letter than 'Z' is).

I haven't checked out Zomba, however, your comparison is very good. Very interesting and informative article.

I agree with Mommy2Lots. (That's lesson #2 - after you're sure you know where your next meal is coming from, agree with Mommy2Lots!) AC is more like a Living Library, whereas Xomba is more like a script-writers' cutting-room floor ... like the Cedars of Lebanon vs. the Mustard Seed's rabid bush---oh, there's "wisdom" in both; but the Cedar's wisdom is "undenible," whereas the Mustard Bush's wisdom is only there if you can find the Fruits. (That, and the fact that I CAN'T USE PAYPAL, is the reason why I work harder on Xomba),

Oh, and I agree about AC. The information and writing is of more quality and context than that of other sites, possibly due to the fact that upfront payment is offered to motivate higher quality. If you write quality writing here, you can expect to get a higher payment than if you write just anything, whereas on other sites, you can really just turn out anything - even crap - and it gets posted instantly, no matter what. :-)

Wow, I just came back to this article and saw the compliment. Thanks Mythman. I'm so glad you enjoy my writing here. Maybe it sounds "textbook" because I homeschool my children and am schooling to become a certified teacher. Lots of school in my day. I also write custom homeschool curriculum for other parents. Yup, I'm one big textbook. LOL

Not to make this sound like too much of a Bible-promo, but these programs (if their hosts are good about keeping them running smoothly) are sort of like "God:" no, you don't have to praise/worship them; but they (like God) will be there for you and will love/help you just the same whether you like them or not!

This is a great comparison and offers compelling reasons to use both sites. I haven't tried Xomba, but I appreciate the "editorial control" that AC uses to keep foul or unfounded content off the site. That is mainly why I haven't checked out the others. Thanks for the informative article. You make a good point in your comment, too, about linking your sites.

Mommy2Lots' AC ~is~ worth a read! She puts information on there that's almost-"textbook." Maybe that's what AC is; not 'almost' something, but more 'unchangable statement' than the fluid discourse that goes on at Xomba.
