When you think of witchcraft, you probably envision old, ugly, wart-ridden women dressed in black robes, hovering over a cauldron containing a mysterious, bubbling concoction and chanting in a strange tongue.

Or perhaps you would more quickly think of the recent Hollywood images of witches - sexy teens in gothic garb and black lipstick, sporting massive silver pentacles and obnoxious attitudes.

Unfortunately, neither of these images can be used to accurately portray witches or witchcraft, because witchcraft has nothing to do with what you look like, what you wear, or the way you conduct yourself in life.

Sure, there may well be old, wart-ridden women who practice witchcraft. There may also be teenagers with bad attitudes who practice witchcraft. Does this mean witchcraft is bad? Not at all!

You see, witchcraft is simply a tool that helps to release the power within you. This power is something we all have, and it's up to us where we want to take it - either to a good place, or a negative place.

White Witchcraft vs. Black Witchcraft

Just like any tool can be used for good or ill, so can witchcraft. Unfortunately, this is one reason why witchcraft has gotten such a bad rap over the years. Too many people using it to fulfill their desires for lust, greed, and power. But did you know that witchcraft can also be used to help heal illness, encourage fertility, and attract abundance? Did you know it can be used to increase your self-confidence and strengthen your relationships?

The main difference between white witchcraft and black witchcraft is the intention behind them. If you use witchcraft to bring harm and misfortune to others, or to exert your will over others, it is considered black witchcraft. If you instead use it to bring joy, happiness, health, wealth, and love into your life, and into the lives of others, it is considered white witchcraft.

How Can I Become a Witch?

Takeaways
  • Witchcraft is simply a tool that helps to release the power already within you.
  • Knowledge is power. Read and learn as much as you can.
  • Intention is the difference between white witchcraft and black witchcraft.

Michael, your ignorance on this subject is truly astounding. Sure, don't play with fire if you don't want to get burned - but then you won't stay warm or cook your dinner, either. When you study the Craft and its theology in detail, perhaps you will be credible. As it is, you sound like a drunken street preacher and add nothing to the debate.

Sweetie, it's all about personal responsibility. Maybe you have a tendency to the dark side and that's why you are so upset by it. Let people make their own decisions and you focus on your own life. Then everyone will be happy.

What is witchcraft really? Good question, wrong answer! While seeming benign, your essay can, step by step, innocuously induce the practice black magic or sorcery (which is the most accepted definition of witchcraft according to Websters unabridged dictionary where the definition excludes good or white magic!) The old saying if you play with fire you will get burned seems apt in dealing with witchcraft. Softening its insidious effects by inviting experimentation only exposes many unwary to the deceptive evils of the dark side. Why dabble in black magic? Meditation is really the subject you should be promoting, unless, of course, you actually are cunningly introducing the dark side. Christ cast out many evil tormenting spirits. Witchcraft is a biblical evil [Ex. 22:18; 1 Sam. 15:23; Mica 5:12]. Are you really on track? God bless!
