6
Also Known As: Bichon Havanias, Havana Silk Dog

Temperament:Havanese are great companion dogs. They become highly attached to their family, and they do very well with children. Havanese are very loving, very playful, and very intelligent. They are high spirited, and tend to get along with everyone; that includes other dogs, cats, animals, and people. They do very well with obedience training. Keep in mind that the Havanese is very sensitive to the tone of your voice when you're saying something. Harsh words do not help with the training, and it will only upset your poor Havanese. Very few Havanese have the tendency to make a lot of noise. They can be taught not to do this. It's not in their nature to bark a lot, but when they are little it's best to teach them then that they should not bark when it's not needed to prevent a habit from forming. Havanese do well as watchdogs, and they will be quick to tell you when a visitor is near by. However, once they see that you are welcoming that visitor they quickly become as friendly as ever! Some Havanese may be shy around visitors, but this is not a normal thing for them to go through. Despite its size, the Havanese is a bold yet cheery dog. They don't tend to be aggressive, and they live to please their owners.

Housetraining: Havanese can be difficult to housebreak, but in some instances they can be housebroken very quickly and easily. It highly depends on your method of housetraining. Havanese are very smart, and behind those cute faces they can tend to be sneaky. You have to keep an eye on your Havanese. All in all it goes like this; You do a good job of taking your Havanese outside when they need to go, then they are trained very quickly, but if you are lazy about taking your Havanese outside, they are lazy about it too. However, some Havanese can be trained easily to ring a bell by the door if they need to go outside.

Living Arrangements:Havanese are small dogs, so they do naturally well in apartments. They will be just fine without a yard. Havanese like to stay inside the home, but they still need exercise, and they enjoy plenty of it too.
