Easily turn a boring, cheap kitchen clock into a flirty work of art! Perfect for use in any female inhabited room, keep this for your own home or give as a gift to your favorite diva. This project needs drying time between coats, so it will take most of a day to complete. For this project, you will need:
- A cheap 8" plastic wall clock, with a removable face (available in places like Walmart or Target, or at a local crafts store)
- Several sheets of Anna Griffin Dorothy Rose Damask paper (available at scrapbook stores or online)
- Black cardstock
- Star stencil
- Medium grit sandpaper
- Soft cloth
- Primer especially for plastic
- Black gloss colored spray paint
- Artist's paintbrush
- Hot pink acrylic paint
- Acrylic finishing spray
- Adhesive spray
- Hole punch
Start by taking the clock apart, with the frame and lens of the clock separate from the paper backing and mechanics. Set the mechanics and clear lens in a safe area, so they are not subject to any overspray from the spray paint.
Wash and dry the plastic frame with a mild detergent. Using the sandpaper, lightly sand the frame of the clock. Wipe any dust from the plastic with the soft cloth. Using the primer especially designed for plastic, prime the clock frame. (If you cannot find primer designed for plastic, check with a paint expert in your local home improvement or craft store who should be able to point you in the right direction.) Allow the primer to dry thoroughly. Add two coats of black gloss colored spray paint to the clock frame, allowing for drying time between coats. Continue to add coats of paint until you are satisfied with the finished color. Spray the frame with acrylic finishing spray and set aside.
Using the paper background of the clock, create a size template on the pink and black damask paper. Cut the circular shape out. Trace the star stencil onto the black cardstock and cutout. Spray the back of the star shape with adhesive and apply to the center of the circle. Add detail to the star pattern with the hot pink acrylic paint and artist's paintbrush. Allow the paint to dry before coating with acrylic finishing spray.
