Downy fabric softener has long been one of the best selling fabric softeners available. Though fabric softener is commonly used in laundry to leave your clothing with a soft feeling, there are many other handy household uses for Downy Fabric Softener which have nothing to do with laundry.

Household uses for Downy Fabric Softener #1-Removing soap scum from your shower and laundry washing machine.
To use Downy Fabric Softener to remove soap scum, pour onto your shower doors and fixtures, and into the tub of your washing machine. Scrub using a soft scrub brush. Let the fabric softener set for three to five minutes and rinse using warm water.

Household uses for Downy Fabric Softener #2-Hair conditioning.
If you run out of your usual brand of hair conditioner, use a small dab of Downy fabric softener as a substitute. To use Downy as a hair conditioner, apply through your hair immediately after you shampoo. Work thoroughly through your hair from the root of the follicle to the tip of the follicle. To achieve the smoothest results, rinse with warm water after three minutes. Using Downy leaves your hair silky smooth and with a shiny, voluminous appearance.

Household uses for Downy Fabric Softener #3-Static guard your Carpet and clothing
Mix a solution of half Downy Fabric Softener with half water into a spray bottle. Spray the solution onto carpets and clothing. Let the solution dry before you walk on the carpet or before you wear the clothing. When using Downy to static guard your clothing, be sure to dry your clothing in a clothes dryer set on the highest heat setting.

Household uses for Downy Fabric Softener #5-Remove hard water stains from sinks, tubs, and showers.
Pour Downy Fabric softener onto the hard water surface. Soak the surface for fifteen minutes. Wipe away with a soft cloth. You should do this once a week to prevent hard water buildup.

Downy is one of the most toxic consumer products out there, second only to Bounce. It is a disgusting product that is unsafe, should certainly NOT be used as a shampoo conditioner under any circumstances and, if I had my way, would be banned from world markets. Want your clothing smelling fresh: clean it with unscented eco-friendly products and hang them outdoors to dry.

They also make your clothes stay fresh when you place a few in your dresser. Also place them under your couch cushions for a fresh smelling couch :)
