This Red, White, and Blue Vintage Suitcase Night Table Craft Project was inspired by some over priced metal storage boxes I came across in a home décor magazine. You can make this Red, White, and Blue Vintage Suitcase Night Table Craft Project using those old hard shell vintage suitcases from the 60's and 70's and get a great look that is perfect as an Americana nightstand.

You can make this on a small scale for patriotic themed office storage as well.

You Make This Red, White, and Blue Vintage Suitcase Night Table Craft Project You Will Need:

3 or 4 Old Hard shelled suitcases or wood trunks

Red, white, and blue paint

Primer

Wood gel stain

Paint brushes

Old clean rag

Painter's tape

Star stencil

Now, if you are not a huge fan of old hard suitcases or you nee to use up something you have laying around the house, then you could use old wood trunks. You could also paint those cheap storage trunks from Wal Mart. Very sturdy baskets would also work well for this nightstand craft project.

Now, you will need as least three components for each Americana nightstand. They also need to be stackable.

Start by painting each piece with primer. Let this dry.

Now, paint the top piece red with latex paint.

The middle piece should be painted white and the bottom piece should be painted royal blue.

While all of this is drying you need to start working on your star stencils. You can buy pre made star stencils or cut your own out of acetate.

Now, is fun to mix and match the star sizes for a little whimsy, but that is up to you.

Once all the paint is dry you can start applying your stars and stripes to the furniture pieces.

You can stencil stars on each piece or stencil stars only on the blue and paint out stripes on the red and white suitcases.

The choice is yours! I think it looks cute to apply star stencils to the top trunk or suit case as well as the bottom component. Use stripes in the middle.

Be sure to paint red or white stars on the blue piece of the shabby chic nightstand. On each piece you want the other two available colors.

Now, let all of this dry.

  • Once all the paint is dry you can start applying your stars and stripes to the furniture pieces.
