McDonald's Apple Pie VS. Popeye's Apple Pie
Which Fast Food Chain Makes the Better Pie?
That is until I got my hands on Popeye's Apple Pie. I didn't buy it myself since I hate the stuff, but one day my grandma pushed the small treat on me. I told her that I didn't like apple pie, but she told me it was really good and was so much better than McDonald's.
I tried it, and realized instantly that my grandma was so right. First off, the crust is totally different and makes a world of difference, when compared to the one by McDonald's. It is fried a bit harder but it still has a flakiness to it. Plus Popeye's sprinkles cinnamon and sugar all over it, so every bite is sweet and spicy and just delicious. McDonald's pie crust is just bland and hard, and you have to convince yourself that it's good in order to finish it, because you know it tastes like flavorless flour.
Next the apple pie filling that Popeye uses inside of their delicious crust is really amazing. The reason why it tastes so good is because the filling is sweet, but I can also taste the butter oozing into my mouth with every bite. It also has a bit of spice to it, so I'm not sure if Popeye's also adds some of the cinnamon spice to their filling as well. The texture is smooth and the apples inside don't feel too mushy or too crunchy, it just feels right.
In comparison, the McDonald's apple pie filling comes off as bland again. It's not as buttery or as rich tasting as the one by Popeye's and the apple pieces inside are too small and crunchy for it to be taken seriously as a real pie, it just tastes like cheap fast-food.
Hands down Popeye's Apple Pie beats McDonald's by a longshot. The combination of their light, flaky and flavorful crust mixed with their buttery apple pie filling simply tastes better, than the heavy, cardboard-like crust of the McDonald's pie along with it's bland chunky filling.
