Credit scores not only affect the ability to purchase items such as a car or a house, but may also affect the interest rate you pay to borrow money. The interest rate on credit loans varies with the credit scores. While there are not quick fixes for credit repair, there are some things that can be done to get a better score.

You can do all this yourself there is no need to pay someone to do these. Most of the times the quick fix credit repair places can't do any more than you can. Use the money that you were going to pay someone to apply to loans and balances.

The first thing to do when trying to get a better credit score is to get copies of the credit reports from all the credit bureaus. The three national credit bureaus are Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. You can get a free credit report yearly from https://www.annualcreditreport.com . Being turned down for credit, may qualify for a free report, as well as if you're a victim of Identity theft. The free credit report will not give you the FICO scores these are usually available for a small sum. This is the score that everyone looks at. When you order the free report, the bureaus will offer you a special on the FICO score.

Now you have all the reports check them over it carefully for accuracy. Make sure that there are no errors. Make sure that the accounts that should be closed are reported that way. If there are errors, each credit report has instructions on how to dispute credit errors. Dispute any entry that that is in error. Once an entry is disputed the bureau will contact the company for their records and that company has to verify the debt. If the company can not verify the debt, the entry must be removed from the credit account. After all inaccurate information has been disputed or your credit report is correct this should raise your score quickly. Usually the bureaus will have the corrections made in less than 60 days.

The next step is to pay your bills on time. You want to reduce the credit owed on the accounts. Pay down as much debt as you can while waiting for the decision on the errors that have been disputed. This makes it possible to have the score raised again.

I learned the hard way about keeping a good credit score, but it is fairly good now. I hope many more people will learn the importance of paying bills on time and think about opening up frivolous accouts. Keep up the good work!
