Footsteps fall above, and she hears the voice of the one she loves.
Worn and weary, struggling to cope.
She offers a smile as a glimmer of hope.
He has been through it all, down this road of pain.
The sun never lasts, what stays is the rain.
He remembers the day he held her hand, exchanging "I do's" as the waves hit the sand.
He promised to be there, for better or worse; he vows to stay and battle this curse.
She thinks of the day the doctor came, and told her husband that it was a shame.
What a terrible shame to die so young, and so soon after the wedding bells rung.

Her body was broken, but not her spirit.
When he said, "I love you," he knew she could hear it.
He held her hand as she faded away; she needed to go but she longed to stay.
"It's okay, baby," he said through his tears. "I'm thankful for these past five years."
He held her close, he held her near, trying to comfort all of her fears.
A tear hit her cheek, he whispered his love, as she floated away on the wings of a dove.

Sobs racked his body, he knew she was gone.
He gave her a kiss, the pain too strong.
He breathed his last, and closed his eyes.
Eternal love lasts, even when the body dies.
A love so pure to last through it all.
Strong through the toils, both big and small.
Love that outlasts life and death, whispering kisses with that one last breath.
In each other's arms they met their end,
Exactly where they wanted, where they began.
