I signed up for Kaplan University on line program studies in February of 2007. I was so excited, I was living in a secluded area in the first place that was a remote town outside of any Universities or community colleges and this was my chance to continue my education in the comfor of my own home. Gas prices would not affect the drive back and forth to campus. If I was sick I could still attend classes.

The promise that after my student loans, and pell grant were paying my two classes for a term of every three months that I would get a $100 back. I was sent a bill in the mail a month later of signing up to the University stating they needed an additional amount of $100 and would be taking that amount that I had been promised in a return. It was tuition that I had not paid. However, after $9,000 of just a total of four classes I would assume that there would be payment enough.

I was wrong and I was locked out of my classes for a term of two days, which when I remedied the problem made it so that I was late for those assignments and to top it off, I had missed the class seminars as well. I was penalized by the grade that as well. I talked to the professor as to why I was late and that was not fair enough to allow me extra time to complete the assignments. I turned in the assignment and took the ten percent off. Still giving myself a passing grade.

I am presently in a software class. Imagine learning a software for the first time and being graded on the random buttons you are pushing in order to accomplish what appears to you as the proper way to complete the assignment. The assignment was not to the bleak instructions that were issued. When trying to get a hold of a professor for extra help, they inform you that they are sorry that they can not do your homework for you. I did not ask anyone to do my homework is the return email. The return email that I receive is if you want to accomplish your goals at Kaplan University learn and figure it out on your own.

Wow I just finished my LAST class at Kaplan. Now I am scared I will not get my degree because I still have a small balance with them. All these comments people left on here scared me.

I don't usually like to say anything negative about educational institutions but in this case I will make an exception. The education side of the the equation was fine. It is the financial side that I have a real problem with. I was grossly misinformed and by the time I tried to take care of it I was too far down the hole. I have tried to get it fixed but because i am only a few classes away from graduation and an honors student but have found that working with the financial side of this organization is difficult. there are just some things that I refuse to pay for because services were never provided but they are not willing to compromise. Even after I sent correspondence show how I was mislead, they are not listening. I am at a point where I may need to take legal action to get this resolved. I wish all of you luck as you fight your battles.

Kaplan is a total joke. I went to them with only 6 months left until my bacholors degree would be complete. They let me transfer in all my credits, now 3 months later I get a letter that only 6 of my credits would transfer to them unless I paid a transfer fee. I'm just cutting my loss and going to a different school now, who took all my transfer credits. I withdrew from Kaplan which took 3 months to do after no one ever getting back to me. After 3 months of not logging in I get a bill from them for classes that I had supposedly taken over the past term, which I was never in. The best part, the classes weren't even in the degree plan I was in. I was a finance major, and they were nursing classes. Go figure.

Since writing this article I have learned that the Kaplan University that I attend is seperate from other sister Kaplan University, not every one is the same. I learned this from Kaplan University in Iowa, themselves and I mentioned many of the problems I have had reflecting this article.

I am having trouble getting my diploma from them. When I was to graduate they all of the sudden had an enormous bill for tuitiion that I was not aware of. I went through their process to take care of it and now they will not return my phone calls or even answer the phone. I have waited extremely long periods of time on hold to check the status of my diploma. I would like to know what I can do to report this problem. They do not need to get by with this and they do not need to do this to other students. It is a shame because the experience was good until the end.

Well I'm currently a student of Kaplan University and it has been great. My instructors are always there if I have a question, as well as the other students. The Academic Advisor that signed me up (Claudia) and she still calls me every once in a while to see if I'm doing well in my classes. I did recieve my first bill ( from CitiBank) but it was only 20 bucks towards my loan. I also must say most of my classes had real books that were delivered to me for my classes in adequate times. I really haven't had any complaints and would recomend it to friends. I am sorry you had such a bad experience. They however, must pass that final test, giving me that degree!

Grace, I don't buy what you have posted here. You say that you were two days late signing in to class. You say that you missed all of your first week seminars. You say that you received 10% off your assignments because you were two days late signing in to class. You say that there is no help available when you have questions. You say that the university expects you to go out and "buy expensive books". First of all, seminars are not generally graded (as a second year student, I have only had one class where the seminars were graded and if you couldn't attend the seminar, there was another option you could take to get the points) and the transcripts are always available for review. Secondly, you have one week to have assignments for the current unit turned in, so even if you were two days late signing in, you still had PLENTY of time to have the assignments submitted. Also, the first week of all of the classes I have taken are incredibly easy - it's basically an opportunity to in

I just paid my 95 bucks to kaplan yesterday. Today i receive information about only being able to transfer three class credits toward my degree. I have 47 credits and the school new of this before my giving 95 dollars. Also, they told me my books were provided for. Now come to find out many of them are e-books. Printing out hundreds of pages...the time...the money! I am pretty ticked off at this point. Very mislead!

I was contemplating enrolling at Kaplan a couple years ago; however, I decided on Jones International University. Throughout my two year Masters Degree program at JIU I was met with very encouraging instructors and like-minded peers. At one point, i was struggling mightily in a course so I called my Counselor who provided me with an individual tutor. I have to say, based on what i am reading on this page, I'm glad I chose JIU. Good luck, everybody.

I attended Kaplan and loved it. Until now I haven't had any trouble. I cannot get them to get my official transcript to my current college. I have been requesting it for four months now. They are claiming that the mail system in Chicago is bad, that it takes a long time for mail to get from there to Kansas. Seriously...I'm not stupid. I'm in the process of taking action on them.
