Acupuncture, is not recognized by all people, but is recognized by the World Health Association as being a legitimate health help to many diseases, including fibromyalgia. Acupuncture consists of small needles, about the size of a hair, being placed into you body, following particular lines or meridians that lead to other parts of the body. The needles remain in your body for thirty to sixty minutes while you body relaxes. There are many theories as to why acupuncture works, and your therapist will go over these with you. This has been the most helpful form of treatment for myself.
Massage can be a useful tool. It reduces muscle spasms, and has been proven to reduce the amount of muscle pain that you can feel. It also relieves tension, can help break up "knots", improves sleep and immune functions, and increases endorphin levels. Deep massages may hurt though, I recommend beginning with a Swedish Massage.
Meditation and deep breathing are recommended to de-stress the mind, and ensure enough oxygen is being taken in. Done regularly, they can reduce the amount of pain you feel.
I suggest taking several supplements and herbs. If you have sleep problems, you should be taking melatonin. For the fibromyalgia, take malic acid and magnesium. Arnica pills or cremes are good for pain, although the best pain relieving creme I have used is MSM Cream. This is more expensive than most pain-relieving cremes, but it also works more. You can find it at health stores, and natural food stores. I suggest always carrying around small containers of it.
