Orange County, California has become the land of reality television shows. Shows such as "The Real Housewives of Orange County" and "Laguna Beach, The Real Orange County" have put this popular county; formerly know for its amusement parks and beaches' on the map. Now Huntington Beach or "Surf City", the nickname it likes to be known by, will join the reality television honor roll when its lifeguards start filming their own series.

This last Monday evening, Huntington Beach City Council collectively agreed to let a Burbank television production company film the reality series based on the daily working lives of the Huntington Beach Lifeguards who protect the public on the largest stretch of continuous beach front on the West coast. Over 11 million tourists visit the Surf City every summer to enjoy its beaches.

The Evolution Film and Tape production company was given permission to tape the Huntington Beach lifeguards as they go about their every day duties for the fifth season. The series, called "Beach Patrol" can be found on the Court TV cable channel, prime time, and will soon begin to air the fourth season of "Beach Patrol", set in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Set to start filming over this summer, the production crew will follow every move of the lifeguards as they make daring, dramatic rescues, administer life and death medical aid as well as educate the public about beach safety awareness. "Beach Patrol" will stick to the essential on-the-job tasks and heroic challenges the lifeguards will face daily instead of sensationalizing their off-duty activities or private relationships.

The City Council's agreement with the production company will let the city have control of what is filmed and will allow them to edit out any "embarrassing or unprofessional" situations if needed. The city will also receive an $8,000 donation per episode to be used for marine safety programs.

I too was there when Lauro Ma drown. http://www.ocregister.com/ocregister/homepage/abox/article_1758538.php That article does not even begin to pay due respect to the MASSIVE effort that took place in order to try to find the missing swimmer. I've lived in Huntington Beach for nearly 39 years, and went through the Jr Lifeguards program myself. NEVER have I seen so much effort go into finding a missing swimmer. HBPD helicopter landed on the bike path (to pick up spotter lifeguards?), Waverunners dashed through the surf, the HB Lifeguard boat helped in the search, the Fire Department was there, Police, a line of lifeguards swam through the surf towards the pier from tower 9, and finally, scuba gear was brough out. Yes, cameras were rolling (Court TV?) and we all thought for sure it was "staged". It should be interesting to see how much of this day HB allows to be shown. In my opinion they should allow the entire day to be shown to show to others just how professionally th

Can't wait to see the episode with the guy who drowned! I thought they were just posing for the cameras and doing a fake search and rescue. They really pulled out all the stops to find this guy. People who can't swim shouldn't go in the ocean if there are waves.

I can't believe this! What else is going to happen in Huntington Beach? I look forward to reading more from you!
