14 of the Weirdest Phobias
After doing a bit of research, I'm convinced there's a phobia for almost everything. In fact, it would be quite a literary feat if some enterprising individual could memorize the official names for all the phobias in the world! While I can't give you an inclusive list of all the weird phobias known to mankind, I'd like to share with you a few of the stranger ones. Here they are in no particular order:
1. Aphenphosphobia
If you know someone with this phobia, you probably wouldn't consider them to be good romance material, as this is the phobia of being touched. Enough said about this one!
2. Hendonophobia
This is the fear of feeling pleasure. I wonder if this dates back to Puritan times when early settlers thought God would strike them down for enjoying themselves?
3. Hippopotomonstosquippedaliophobia
And what do you suppose this phobia pertains too? It's the fear of long words, of course. I'm not kidding!
4. Novercaphobia
Otherwise known as a fear of stepmothers. One that would not be strange is whatever phobia describes a fear of mother-in-laws. Anyone know the name for that one?
5. Arachibutyrophobia
This is the fear of eating peanut butter and having it stick to the roof of your mouth.
6. Pteronophobia
Who would have thought there are people who have a morbid fear of being tickled by feathers?
7. Selenophobia
Fear of the moon. You probably won't find many aspiring astronomers with this phobia!
8. Syngenesophobia
This is fear of your relatives. I'll bet this one is more common than we think!
9. Urophobia
Fear of urinating. The way some of the public restrooms I've visited are maintained makes me think this might be a healthy fear!
10. Walloonphobia
I'll admit I don't know what a Walloon is, but is must be weird!
11. Aurophobia
This is the fear of gold.
12. Bogyphobia
Fear of the bogeyman.
13. Euphobia
This is the fear of hearing good news. Maybe they'd rather hear bad news instead?
14. Hydrophobia
Fear of liquids, dampness or moisture. These people must stay pretty dehydrated!
