My first step was to find out what acne really is. Acne is defined as inflammation of the skin due to a sebaceous gland, located at the bottom of each hair follicle which becomes trapped with natural oils, causing bacterial buildup and inflammation. This condition may be worsened at adolescence, before and during a woman's menstrual cycle due to hormonal action, and when under stress, eating a poor diet, or on contraception.
My goal has always been to keep oil from building up. In order to keep my acne at bay I steam my face every morning. Then I apply a bentonite clay mask (Aztec Secret: Indian Healing Clay) that I mix with apple cider vinegar. I let the mask sit for about 20 minutes and then rinse. My next step is to spray a mist of Yonka normal to oily skin lotion on my face which is kind of like a toner with botanical essential oils. My third step is to use Retin-A which was prescribe by my doctor and basically gradually peels off the top layer of your skin to help reduce acne. Upon using the Retin-A I place the acne skin lotion from Pro Activ on my face and then I use a fading cream called "Black and White" which is sold in Walmart for $5. You can find it in the ethnic section. After I add all of my creams I also use cetaphil as a moisturizer. I know that sounds like a lot but it works for me. Also, I make sure I take B5 vitamins which help level out my hormones.
