Deciding to have another child is always a difficult decision. The financial ramifications coupled with the emotional, mental and physical aspects can leave parents feeling short of breath and unprepared for another baby. Only you can know when you are ready for another baby, however, because what's right for one couple won't work at all for another.

The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) recommends an eighteen- to twenty-three-month gap between children for optimal health for both mother and child. While this might be true, it doesn't take into account the mental and emotional parts of pregnancy, which I'm sure you remember are quite significant. Not only will you be caring for one young child, but you'll be nurturing another in your womb.

Whether or not you are ready for another baby shouldn't be based on studies or research, but on careful consideration by all parties involved. Various factors might include your family's financial situation, the mother's health, the father's ability to be home more often, any complications with previous pregnancies and a score of other situations that might demand your attention.

Unfortunately, some couples experience marital problems, then think that having another baby will solve those problems. This is something else you should consider; the physical and emotional demands of pregnancy require that both mother and father be in a positive frame of mind. If your relationship is suffering under the weight of other stressors, pregnancy is likely to complicate matters instead of fix them.

Furthermore, whether or not you are ready for another baby should be a decision made by both parents. If you are not on board with the idea of having another baby, complications are sure to arise. This decision requires quite a bit of thought as well as consideration for your current situation.
