Do you have a talent for poetry or just writing in general? Do you always seem to have the right words for someone who is sad, grumpy or upset? Have you ever considered writing for a greeting card company?

Getting started could not be easier! Look through some cards at the grocery store or dig out some you've kept to familiarize yourself with what is generally expected. Sit down and write when you're feeling inspired. Think about your life, your experiences and your family when writing; the best greeting cards come from the heart.

Decide on what type of card you would like to write. Some common categories for greeting cards are: Get Well, Humor, Thinking of You, Sympathy, Birthday, Anniversary, Love, Romance, Friendship, Inspiration and Special Occasions such as, New Baby, Christmas, Easter and Graduation. Some newer categories in the greeting card industry deal with real life situations that may or may not be so pleasant; divorce, separation, alcoholism, dating and growing older. These are just modest lists to give you a general idea, certainly there are many more categories to choose from.

Each separate company has its own procedures and guidelines when it comes to authors submitting their work. You can visit their websites or email them to inquire what is expected of you.

Potential earnings for this area of expertise is awesome! However, earnings will vary for reasons due to, but not limited to, diverse company policies, how often you write and submit work and whether or not it is accepted, demand for writers and material, etc. If you have a lot of time on your hands and you are exceedingly creative, the financial potential can be about as high as you want it to be. Even writing part of the time could be rather beneficial, if you are in need of extra income.

If this sounds like a business venture that is right up your alley, give it a try. A word of advice, don't go into it expecting to have all of your work accepted; even professional writers are undoubtedly familiar with rejection. The important thing is not to give up! If you are rejected, look over your work to find any needed revisions, fix it and resubmit it.
