Omaha, Nebraska is a great place to live, and a nice place to visit. At first glance, it may not seem like a very exciting city - after all, its located in a state that is known more for its beef, rather than its appeal
as a tourist destination. However, there is actually quite a bit to do the next time you stop in Omaha. Below are some fun things you can do when you are in town:
1. Visit The Henry Doorly Zoo
The world famous Henry Doorly Zoo is one of the most popular spots for tourist to visit when they are in Omaha. The Henry Doorly Zoo features a lot of nice attractions, including many animal exhibits and the Imax Theater. At $10.75 per adult, admission is very reasonably priced. Kids from 3-11 years old can get in for $7, and kids 2 years old and younger are free.
2. Visit The Wildlife Safari
Another place that features animals, but in a slightly different setting than the zoo is the Wild Life Safari, located just off Interstate 80. It offers a a glimpse of animals in their natural environments. From the comfort of your car, you will see deer, elk, and bison, and a variety of birds. Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, you can also watch the wolves and bears feed - not your every day sight in the Midwest!
3. Visit The Strategic Air And Space Museum
Another great place to visit in the Omaha area is the Strategic Air And Space Museum. If you like military aircraft, they have a very large collection of military jets, such as the supersonic SR 71, and the high flying U2, not to mention other military aircraft that were once classified.
4. Go Out For A Ball Game
If you like spectator sports, Omaha is home to the Royals, a minor league baseball team, and for a brief period in June, the College World Series. You can also watch the "Omaha Beef", take on its opponents in arena league football. There are also a variety of golf courses, not to mention two "disc" golf courses, which you play with Frisbees, rather than golf balls.
5. Visit The Old Market
Located right next to downtown, the historic old market has great shopping and great restaurants. While you are there, make sure to head on over to the Heartland of America park.
