If adults have their mood swings, children also have their own. It's their expression of anger and frustration which includes physical and verbal outbursts. They are called temper tantrums.Temper tantrums are children's way of getting their parents' attention. They can be showed through many ways. Sometimes children scream, kick anything on their way, and hit someone. But parents do not have to worry about their kids when they are having their temper tantrums. It is normally experienced by kids ages 1 to 3.
To be able to avoid temper tantrums, a parent must first realize why their kids resort on doing it. They should know the reason for their child's unlikely behavior. Temper tantrums are children's way of communicating to their parents.
Most of the time it indicates their frustrations of not being able to say clearly what they want and what they need. These tantrums occur during their toddler years because in this stage, they are just starting to learn words to communicate. Thus, they need an outlet to express their needs to other people.
Totally getting rid of temper tantrums is impossible. But there are several ways of avoiding it:
- Let your child have some control over little things he do. This will teach him to be more independent thus, he would learn to get the things he wants on his own.
- Temper tantrums are a child's way of getting your attention. To avoid this, be sure that you give your child the proper attention they need.
- Offer something to replace the object that the child wants. A child has a short span of attention. You could easily distract him to take away his attention from the things you do not want to give him.
- To help develop your child, give him a more simple task before making him do a more complicated one. Thus, this will help the child in the transition years of his life.
- When your child really wants something, try to determine if you can give it to your child. If you could give it and you know that it would be more advantageous for the child to have it, give it to him.
