When it comes to changing out the old appliances for new energy saving appliances, the water heater is the first that needs to go. You use it so much in your daily lives and it just makes sense for it to be one of the energy saving appliances in your home. To find out what water heaters are energy saving appliances, look at the label will have an EF listing if it is indeed an energy saving appliance. If you find that you do not have the money to purchase a water heater that falls into the energy saving appliances category, there are some thing s you can do to make the one you have into one.
Putting an insulated shield around the water heater will make it into one of the energy saving appliances. It will stop any loss of heat resulting in the heater having to work harder. Your water pipes should be covered also. Finally, to make your existing water heater one of the energy saving appliances, turn the temperature of the heater lower than what it is now. A temperature of 120 degrees is usually good.
Energy saving appliances are known for water saving abilities so try to use only the water you absolutely need and no more. Making your shower five minutes shorter will help immensely.
