Safeco Field, located in the "SoDo district" (south downtown) of Seattle, is a must see for any baseball fan. Located on the corner of Edgar Martinez Drive and 1st Avenue, the park has been home for the Mariners since the mid-way mark of the 1999 season on July 15th. Safeco Field is most known for it's innovative retractable roof, resting over an active railroad, where trains can often be heard blowing their horns during games. The roof acts as umbrella over the stadium when closed. Safeco also has the distinction of being the only stadium in the Major Leagues that features a manually operated scoreboard.

The views are what really make Safeco a special place to visit. As far as the action goes, there really is not a bad seat in the house. The "cheap seats" in the outfield bleachers still get great views of the game play. You can walk down to the bullpens and watch relievers for both teams warm up. There is even an area in left-center field that is standing room only, and if you show up early enough you can get an amazing view of the action for the price of just the cheapest ticket. Even the bar, the "Bullpen Pub" has views that are just slightly above ground level. While the views of the action are amazing, fans are also treated to stunning views of Seattle's downtown skyline, and beautiful Puget Sound.

There are lots of other goodies to keep you interested. There is an array of paintings, sculptures, and other artistic structures. If you've never been to the park, wait until the next sunny day and go out with a couple friends. The grass on the field is green, the sky is bright blue, and you'll be in for a treat. What this stadium lacks in historical value, makes up for with its design and fun factory.
