Better Health Through Proper Breathing

Breath is the essence of existence and life. Over 99% of our energy and oxygen come from breathing. Most diseases are caused or aggravated by poor breathing. When we breathe we inhale and exhale. While inhaling we let in oxygen, which is essential for sustaining life. When we exhale we leave out carbon di oxide, which our lungs send out along with all impurities. Proper breathing increases our lung capacity. In human beings the maximum lung capacity is attained in the late twenties. Thereafter it declines. So it becomes important to take appropriate action to improve breathing capacity and to realize the maximum potential.Though breathing is very important, often we forget how to breathe properly and to derive maximum benefits. Normally when a person inhales he contracts the belly and when he exhales the belly expands. This is the wrong way of breathing. The right method is the reverse of this. This means inhaling is accompanied by expansion of the belly and exhaling by contraction. The correct method is to inhale with expanding belly and exhale with contracting it. The expanding belly increases intake of oxygen. When this process takes place lot of air is taken in through inhaling. A deep breath allows more oxygen to be pumped in and sent to all cells in the body. During exhaling all impurities within are flushed out. In such a practice of breathing the stomach muscles expand and contract and it helps to crush all excess fat.
In general the right method of breathing is not learnt at an early stage. Therefore the full potential of the lung capacity is not realized. Most of us practice wrong method of breathing even during the later years. We don't devote adequate attention to learn the right method in inhaling and exhaling. We hardly realize 20 to 30% of our potential when we thus breathe. We tend to be easy victim to diseases and our resistance becomes weak to ward of diseases. Hypertension is one of the diseases caused by incorrect breathing.
