Marvel Comics Will Bury Captain America on Thursday
The Associated Press is reporting that Marvel comics will be burying the fallen Captain America in Thursday's issue of "Fallen Son." There are major political connotations to this action and to the storyline that led up to this.
In the issue that came out on March 7th of this year, Captain America was shot by an assassin's bullet. This outraged many fans of Marvel's oldest superhero. It also made many fans realize the political connotations of the storyline that led up to one of their
favorite hero's deaths.
The current storyline for Marvel Comics centers around the Superhero Registration Act. The goal of the act is to have all of the superheroes officially register with the government, and to reveal their secret identities.
This led to the, "Marvel Civil War," where superheroes battled against each other. Some were on the side of registration, while others were not.
The Superhero Registration Act, and the ensuing Civil War are reminiscent of some of the actions that are currently going on in American politics. It is easy to see the symbolism as being reflective of the National Registration Act, and of the Patriot Act. It can also be noted how some members of the U.S. Government have suggested that those people that do not support these two acts are not patriotic.
In the past, Captain America has been triumphant over the Nazis in his epic battles with the Red Skull. He became a symbol of many young Americans who went to fight overseas during World War II.
He once again became a symbol as he battled Communism during the Korean War and during Vietnam. He became one of the most beloved characters in all of the Marvel Universe.
Some people point to the death of Captain America as being symbolic for the death of certain American values and freedoms. These fans believe that Captain America was one of the greatest symbols of the American way of life, and patriotism.
