Louisana Crime Briefs: High Speed Chase Almost Lands Inside of House

Ouachita Parish - According to The New Star, Sheryl Smith, 37, and Scott B.Smith, 51, took police on a high speed chase through Ouachita Parish. According to the police, Smith tried to drive through a house that was located at 1202 Standifer Avenue, where she was then tased and arrested. Smith was charged with reckless operation, a stop sign violation, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, as well failure to yield at a railroad crossing. More charges could be filed later into the investigation. The Smith's are currently at the Ouachita Correctional Center.

West Monroe - Wifredo A. Velasquez, 34, was arrested on one count of purse snatching, and one of operating a vehicle without lawful presence in the U.S..According to the police a female truck driver had been in the casino room at a truck stop, when she noticed a Hispanic man following her around. The woman told police that she went to reach for her shower bag, and noticed that her purse and the man had disappeared. Witnesses told police that they had seen a man that fit the description throw a purse down and speed away. Police apprehended the vehicle and questioned the man that they thought was the suspect. According to The New Star, Velasquez was taken to the Quachita Correctional Center to be arrested and charged.
