The drought that has plagued South Georgia this spring and summer will not hinder the Independence Day Fireworks Celebration being held in Albany. City leaders say that even with the drier than normal conditions the fireworks will pose no significant threat. Albany Fire Chief James Carswell believes that holding the July Fourth celebration at the Albany James H. Gray Civic Center is actually a lot safer than when the city held the fireworks at Hillsman Park. He also went on to say that there are contingencies in place should any problems arise.

City leaders have gotten behind the idea of putting on a big show, that will be sure to entertain the entire family. This will be the first time the entire fireworks show will be choreographed to music. The music will be broadcast by Cumulus radio station Mix 107.7 and is sure to be enjoyed by the entire city.

The Albany Riverquarium will also be open on the Fourth, with a little extra incentive to come and check out what they have to offer. The Riverquarium will actually be open until 8:00pm and they are offering a tour of the popular city attraction with a discounted admission fee of five dollars. In addition to the tour you will also be invited to watch a movie at Albany's Imagination Theatre at no extra charge. This is sure to be a huge hit with the whole family.

After the movie head on over to the Civic Center for the fireworks. Promoters have went all out to provide us with a spectacular show of explosions in the sky. With one thousand fireworks that will be launched from mortars and an additional two thousand smaller ones to be shot or launched, this promises to be the biggest and best display Albany has ever experienced on the Fourth of July.
