In this tutorial, you'll learn where to quickly find the latest BlackBerry® 8100 and BlackBerry® 8800 software. You'll also learn exactly how to navigate the download directory to find precisely what you need.

Experienced computer geeks likely won't need this lesson.

But if you're a busy nontechnical professional who could use some time-saving step-by-step instructions, you've found your solution here.

Hardware requirements:

BlackBerry 8100 or BlackBerry® 8800

PC running Windows XP, Windows 2000 or Vista

If you're a real stickler for usually unimportant details, see the information here for complete hardware and software requirements. Ready to Get Started?
First, go to the download page at BlackBerry®'s site

Click on "BlackBerry® Device and Desktop Software."

After the next screen appears, click on "Download BlackBerry® Device and Desktop Software."

After the next screen appears, click on the words "Please Select A Product." You'll then see a wide range of choices. Choose "BlackBerry® Desktop Software v4.2 Service Pack 2." It's near the top.

Click on "Next."

Now this is where it can get confusing. You'll see another "Next" button on the page that next appears. But don't click on it. (You can, but it will only reload the page.) What you want is a little lower.

You'll see several BlackBerry® software product descriptions. Some are for your computer, and some are for your BlackBerry® device. You can tell the ones for your computer because they have the word "Desktop" in the title. For example: "BlackBerry® Desktop Software v4.2 Service Pack 2 (English)." That's the one you want if your primary language is English. You'll also see a "Multilanguage" version just below it. But don't click on "download" yet.

First, open another browser window so that you have two identical browser windows open. Why? Because you're going to download two programs: one for your computer and one for your BlackBerry® device. To open a new browser window, just hold down the CTRL button and press N. A new browser window will open.

Takeaways
  • Save time by doing directly to the BlackBerry® downloads page.
