The Bridges of Madison County.  Whether you just love covered bridges, or if you were lost in the heart wrenching plight of Francesca Johnson in the book, or loved the steely gaze of Clint Eastwood in the movie, Madison County Iowa is a place you must visit.  Quaint? Definitely.  Out of the way? You'd better believe it.  In fact, don't need groceries too late on a Sunday evening because nothing is open.

Located near Winterset is a little side of the road place called The Brass Lantern.  This is a bed & breakfast like no other!  In a country farm setting, but conveniently located close to Winterset, and all of the covered bridges of Madison County, The Brass Lantern is the place to get away. The rooms are located in an seperate building from the house, with an indoor heated pool.  It was in fact a blizzard the first night my wife and I stayed there on our honeymoon.  We enjoyed the blizzard through the glass walls from the comfort of the pool.  For a little extra both of the rooms can be rented to insure total privacy.  The owners, Marge & Terry, do not bother you unless you call them.  You are totally secluded with your loved one, and privacy is totally yours.

Breakfast is a wonderful home cooked meal of choice, with coffee made from beans imported from Virginia.  I have yet to find a better cup of coffee!  The owners are wonderful company, super conversationalist, and their home is beautiful and comfortable.  This is a can't miss place!  Our honeymoon was wonderful as we got to travel down gravel roads and hop from one covered bridge to another.  Many wonderful pictures are still on file and memories that will last a lifetime are etched permanantly in our minds.  Visit them at http://thebrasslantern.com
