Are you contemplating a trip to Georgia? You couldnt make a better choice. Consider these small town havens for your next vacation spot.

Alpharetta Georgia is that rare mixture of southern charm and city excitement. It is an eclectic mixture of "down home" appeal and urban stimulation. There is something for everyone. The artistic community is well represented with Alpharettas beautiful art galleries.

Originally called New Prospect Camp Ground, Alpharetta was once a tiny village that served as a trading post between the Indians and the local frontiersman. The ground was perfect for cotton and when the land lotteries of the 1800's placed its first winners there cotton became plentiful.

In 1858 Alpharetta became a town. The people began to hold a festival every year where settlers from miles around would attend. It was sometimes their only social outlet all year. The town began to grow, adding a jail and a courthouse. Many records were lost when the left flank of the Union Army passed through Milton County and the original Courthouse was burned. Dr. O. P. Skeleton salvaged many of the court documents and carried them to a hiding place in Jackson County.

Alpharettas populace has its unique heritage to learn from with the Historic Downtown Alpharetta Square. A large warehouse filled with relics from the towns illustrious past as well as antiques, specialty gifts, flowers and an exceptional dining experience.

A little further South you'll find the southern hospitality and down home charm are the draw of charismatic Carrollton Georgia. Small town advantages mix with modern day conveniences to make a dream city for anyone.

The town known as Carrollton was once the home of the Creek Indians. The Creek Indians were part of the Five Civilized Tribes. The Creek Indians were forced to give up the land in late 1826 and then surveying of the new land cession began. In March of 1827, Ulysses Lewis surveyed Carrollton's public square. In November of 1829, the county seat was moved to its present site, and in December, the town was incorporated as Carrollton.
