Mr. Gingrich was first elected to Congress in 1978 where he served the Sixth District of Georgia for twenty years. In 1995, he was elected Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives where he served until 1999.
There are several news articles that give evidence to the fact the Mr Gingrich is considering a run for the White House like this one in the Chicago Sun Times The article says"Newt Gingrich is telling Republican insiders that his decision in September on whether to run for president in 2008 depends on the progress of Fred Thompson's imminent candidacy."
Mr Gingrich is also planing to be in Iowa for the Straw Poll, which takes place in August. As a matter of fact, he is going to have his own booth and visit the Iowa State Fair, a very candidate thing to do. He is also appearing on shows such as "Meet the Press"
Meanwhile Mr Thompson shows signs that he is seriously considering entering the race. The Nashville Post is reporting that Tennessee Republican Party chairman Bob Davis is leaving to join the officially non existent Thompson campaign, which leads one to believe that the non existent campaign may be ready to spring to life.
