Hollywood Bowl in California was one of our favorite places to go to see the fireworks. This year, however, my family and I decided to change our plans for the 4th of July celebration. Since we have heard so much about this yearly event, we decided to go to the neighborhood celebration, which is quite close to us. This event is called "Fourth of July Community Fireworks Festival." It is sponsored by the Studio City Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with CBS Studio Center, CBS 2, KCAL 9 and the North Hollywood High School Music Department. The event, to be held at CBS Studio Center in Studio City, will be televised on KCAL 9.

Bruce Neckels, President of the Chamber and chairman of the event for the fourth year, said, "With Paperback Writer, a popular Beatles tribute band as our headliner on the main stage, we hope the event will remind everyone of 1967, when love was in the air and peace signs were everywhere." The reason why the year 1967 was mentioned is because this will be the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Summer of Love. Neckels said that there will be a lot of psychedelic colors, costumes, and flavors of Sergeant Pepper's and Magical Mystery Tour.

Since I had some favorite music tunes in the 60's, this will be an interesting event for me On the main stage, there will be Old School with Mimi McCloy. She will greet guests with 1967 favorites from the Mamas and Papas, Jefferson Airplane, Buffalo Springfield, and some popular Janis Joplin hits. There will also be some other favorite music of that era. The North Hollywood High Choir will also do a medley from "Hair." It was in 1968 that my husband and I saw "Hair" and we thought it was a great musical. At that time, it was very popular for young men to wear their hair long, just hanging down or tied back in a pony tail. This style was especially popular with the musicians.
