The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion Walkthrough Part 1: The Dying Will of the Emperor
Starting out in the game of Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion is no different than the previous versions by the fact that you appear in a jail cell. For whatever reason that you're here, you have no clue and you have a long journey ahead of you, so on with the walkthrough.
Your first step into starting in the world of Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion is creating your character by selecting the race and physical features you want. After changing your appearance to the look of your choice, you'll want to try exploring your jail cell. One thing you may notice that wasn't offered in the previous versions of the game is the ability to sit on stools. Now that you have a better understanding of the controls and scenario, make your way over to the cell door where a prisoner in a different cell will start talking to you. After doing so, the Emperor and his guards will enter your room and he will start to ramble on and have an epiphany, in which later you just follow them out of there and walk along behind them.
The real game play for Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion doesn't really start until the guard named Baurus tells you to stop following them. The only way to get through the door they enter and leave you behind in is having a key, so you should carry onward. Directly behind you, you'll see a few rats coming out of a hole and this is the path you want to take in Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion as soon as you kill the rats. From here on out, you'll just keep entering new rooms of no real importance until you catch up with the Emperor and his guards at the final room.
Once you find them, the Emperor will be assassinated and there's nothing you can do about it so again you shouldn't worry about it. One of the guards will tell you that before he died, he was given the Amulet of the Kings and that it should be taken to a man named Jauffre as he is the only man who knows how to find the last of his bloodline, being his son. You'll also be warned in Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion that the assassins were those who worked for the Lord of Destruction.
