Now that summer is here and kids are out of school, parents and kids alike are sometimes at a loss of how to occupy all of the free time. Many parents are still working through the summer months which leaves the kids looking for something to do that won't get them into trouble. If you don't want your kids sitting in front of the television or computer all day long, or playing video games from sun up to sun down, look into some summer activities to keep them busy and having fun at the same time.

Park Districts: Many park districts offer a variety of summer programs for kids. They often have separate age groups so all of the kids can interact with other kids their age. Activities include sports, art, swimming, and even field trips. From toddlers to teens, there is something for everyone at the park.

Day camps: Day camps usually have a variety of activities for children ranging from arts and crafts to structured play time, movies, planting gardens, or having special guests perform for the children.

Sleep-Away Camps: Some kids may like to get away for a few weeks and experience the outdoors. If so, sleep-away camp may be just the thing for them to do during the summer. With activities like hiking, kayaking, group challenges, or just singing around the campfire, this can be a great way to have some fun in the summer.

Libraries: Who wants to go to the library during the summer, right? Well actually, many libraries have reading contest they try to involve young readers in and they even have prizes they can win if they read so many books. Libraries also have plays and other activities they plan for the children during the summer. You can even get free passes to visit museums and aquariums.

Lessons: Martial arts? Dance? Singing? Piano? Swimming? Gymnastics? There are so many lessons kids can take depending on what their interest are. Enroll your young ones in a class during the summer. Unlike the reading and writing they deal with in the regular classroom, this will be more of a hands on experience where they are actually learning something that can be considered a hobby.
