Next Safety Inc, a North Carolina leader in technology and medicine, announced Friday, that it would release a hand-held pulmonary delivery system to deliver nicotine as part of its commitment to providing the public with a safer alternative to smoking. The devices will deliver nicotine, the addictive component of tobacco, without the accompanying carcinogens commonly found in cigarette smoke.

With this pulmonary drug delivery device, nicotine is delivered at such a high efficiency level that one dose is equal to less than 30% of the nicotine normally inhaled from one cigarette; yet the psychoactive effects last any where from 12 to 18 hours for the average person. These effects are felt within 10 seconds of inhalation.

This nicotine delivery system shows promise of greatly increasing the success rates for those who wish to quit smoking, as the delivery system accurately mimics the delivery of nicotine from cigarette smoking. While using the device, those who wish to quit smoking have the opportunity to make lifestyle changes that do not include tobacco, without battling the symptoms of nicotine cessation. Because of the efficiency of the delivery system, the consumer will experience a substantial financial savings as opposed to purchasing cigarettes.

"It is unfortunate that millions of people rely on smoking for the delivery of nicotine. Less than 15% of the people who try to quit smoking actually do. Next Safety, Inc. will offer a safe, cost effective alternative to smoking that we believe will save millions of lives," said C. Eric Hunter, CEO and founder of Next Safety.

"It is our belief that this realistic, although controversial approach will be much more effective than current nicotine replacement therapies and MUCH safer than smoking a cigarette," Next Safety said.

Has the device gone through any clinical trials? I don't see any info on the website supporting the validity of their claims, FDA approval? Is this news or just smoke and mirrors?

Awesome idea but I'll have to read the facts about it. My husband had an adverse reaction to the patch, I just wonder if the same thing will happen with this.
