There is a growing push in the United States to find alternate methods for producing and using energy. For many families, finding ways to conserve energy is not only important to their environment but also important to their wallets.

With the continued concern over global warming, many American families are looking to private companies and government officials to approve and create ways in which to aide their efforts to conserve energy. With Americans using over 340 million Btu of energy each year, this is a great concern for the environment and for future generations.

One area of energy conservation is the focus on automobiles. With government support, many energy conservation activists feel automobile manufacturers can make a large impact on our environment by creating more energy efficient automobiles. While hybrid vehicles do supply some level of conservation, there is much more that can be done.

Another area of concern is the energy efficiency and conservation associated with air travel. Because Americans desire a quick method for transporting themselves into a new destination for business and pleasure, airline travel has taken over and surpassed the use of rail or bus lines. Because airplanes expend over a significant amount of nitrogen oxide into the air, while in the tropospheric zone, the ozone layer is significantly altered with the continued high cost use of air travel. While airplanes are becoming more efficient, there is still a long way to go in the energy conservation process. As a result, if you and your family are considering a vacation this year, consider the impact your air travel may have on the environment.

Takeaways
  • Statistics report that more than 20 percent of the energy used in the United States is used in homes
  • Consider car, rail or bus travel over airline travel
  • Purchase an energy efficient appliance for your home
