Cooking from scratch can seem like an overwhelming task with very little motivation in our current world full of easily obtained boxed and frozen meals. Boxed meals and frozen entrees, while definitely taking a lot of the time preparation out of meal preparing, sacrifice taste and nutritional value
almost to an alarming degree. Therein lies the motivation needed to tackle the giant task of cooking from scratch-flavor and nutrition. Let's not even talk about the cost of such foods at the grocery store!

Three years ago when I launched my boat into the sea of cooking from scratch for my family, it whole-heartedly became my hobby,my pursuit. I now cook from scratch most of the time. I hope, in this article, to simply outline how the cooking from scratch is indeed possible for us all-even those who have never attempted the very first thing--and give a few simple ways to begin to break the seemingly huge cooking from scratch monster down into encouragingly doable manageable segments. Even if you have never, ever cooked one single bite from scratch, get in the kitchen and give it a go--if you are determined, you can do it.

The first thing to do as you embark on your cooking from scratch journey, is to choose what you are going to cook. One thing, one dish, something you like and really want to learn to make from scratch. Biscuits like Grandma's or Aunt Mary's Chicken Casserole, any dish or item will do but it is best to pick something basic, with just a few steps and even fewer kitchen utensils needed. If you can visit Grandma or Aunt Mary and learn a beloved dish hands-on, that is simply perfect. If, not, here we go.

Find a recipe for the dish you have chosen for your cook from scratch debut. Grandma's recipe, Aunt Mary's recipe, a friend's recipe, use a cookbook or do a Google search online. If possible, getting a tried and true recipe is ideal-one you know other folks have used and had success with. However you go about it, choose your recipe and read it over carefully.
