What Are the Bushies Saying?

As the 2008 Presidential Primaries are heating up, it has become noticeable that republican contenders are not standing in line to seek the title of the 'establishment candidate.' McCain's war policy promises have branded him the first establishment-associated guinea pig, and the result has been that his approval ratings have dropped perhaps past the point of no return. The remaining candidates appear to be listening to their advisors and subsequently figuring out ways to be pro-America while at the same time not aligning themselves with George W. Bush and his alarmingly low approval rating.

However, there still exist Bushies, i.e., those who defend the bulk of Bush's past decisions, agree with his reasoning, and wish to see more Bush-like policies implemented in the world. Bushies are now in the minority, although there are still enough of them to have a collective set of talking points. The following list provides what I have noticed to be the top three most frequently-uttered claims made by Bushies.

3. Bush is a man of faith.

This comment is usually made as if to imply that Bush is a man of God, while those who challenge his policies are not. But that is false. Many of those critical of Bush's policies believe in God. Jesse Jackson, for example, believes in God, and so does Al Sharpton. And so does John Kerry. "But wait," a Bushie might point out. "How do you know John Kerry believes in God as much as George Bush does." Well, I have no idea. In fact, whether a man has faith or not is actually nothing I could ever be sure about. I'm surprised that Bushies are not only so sure that Bush has faith, but they are also sure that his opponents don't have as much faith. And many are willing to defend his decisions based on their assuredness on this point.

2. Bush protects us from the Muslim extremists

Did You Know?
We have no reason to think that Bush will go down in history as a great president. Suggestions to the contrary are mere fantasy.

Mr. Clayton: To what 'facts' do you refer. In addition, I suppose you have not seen Bush's recent approval ratings. Many of those voters you mentioned now want nothing to do with "the greatest president ever." Oddly enough their sentiments have nothing to do with Mr. Van Vector's 'cyber-terrorism' and everything to do with President Bush's performance in office. Perhaps your's and Dr. Bruzer's time would be better spent brushing up on these 'facts' than indiscriminately defending Bush against those who do. In addition, check out my article on 'Mindfulness.' Sounds like you could use some mental equanimity.

Mr. Clayton, I agree with your comments Van Vector is nothing more than a cyber-terrorist in my opinion!

Van Vector, your anti-Bush, anti-american views are obvious, so please leave my president and my country alone. Better yet why don't you just leave my country!

Begging Jim Clayton's pardon, this is very funny: "looking through mysterious evidence," indeed. One mustn't lose one's sense of humor (humour), must one?

PS: Clayton, you sound like every other disgrutled Republican who 1)has no sense of humor 2)can't read between the lines 3)defends Bush no matter what and no matter how many people die in this stupid war.

Nice article! It illustrates clearly the lack of logic used by people who are too tied to a party and not looking at what is best for the people. Geeze.

And secondly, I think you should be Ward Churchilled for co-opting the phrase "Bushies." Even an amateur wordsmith such as myself knows to credit original sources, such as Molly Ivins who, to the best of my recollection coined the phrase "Bushies." So, let's review: You write a persuasive article that persuades no one (at least no one with a brain) AND you do not properly cite original sources. Sounds like Ward Churchill to me. Didn't he just lose his tenure? That's right! UC booted his plagiarizing ass, didn't they? Justice rocks, dontcha think?

Very special how you took three sweeping generalizations and applied these phrases as the most prominent reasons the "Bushies" support him. And as you stated "Certainly, facts have no effect," I hope you are aware your statement applies to you as well. Prolly not. Nice try though - I admire the way you took these 3 generalizations and attempted, very poorly might I add, to marginalize over 50% of voters who cast their '04 vote for Bush. BTW, at what school did you take your Persuasive Writing Class? If I was you, I'd ask for my money back on that one, but that's just me.
