American Girl Dolls are one of those special things many little girl dreams are made of. Exquisite craftsmanship with beautiful detail, these dolls, while expensive at the outset, are worth their price in both lasting quality and in the dreams they fulfill. Our daughter's dream was realized about 3 years ago when she finally received her American Girl doll, Kaya, after several years in which we pored over the American Girl catalogs every month. Choosing her doll was a process of learning all about several different American Girl dolls and finally deciding on the one that would become hers as well as biding time until we felt our girl was old enough to take decent care of such a doll. The Historical Collection of American Girl Dolls offers so much room for enjoyment, learning and imaginative play for endless hours. Every one of the American Girl Dolls in the Historical Collection comes with a book that is her 'story', and each is set during a significant time period in history. For example,my daughter's doll, Kaya, is the story of a little Nez Perce girl living in 1764. This particular American Girl doll has thick black braids fastened with shells and comes dressed in a soft buckskin dress with moccasins on her feet.
Each American Girl doll in the Historical Collection is the embodiment of a fictional girl set in a particular historical time period. There are accurate basic true-to-era clothing and accessory options specific to each doll available for purchase. For example, the options for my daughter's doll, Kaya, includes items such as a small stuffed dog, a tipi, a bedroll, a small bag containing food and many more things. There are also several choices in clothing you can buy in addition to what the American Girl doll comes to you already wearing. As you can see just by that example, the list is endless when it comes to the imaginative fun a little girl can have with such sweet accessories. Necessary, no, but wonderfully fun nonetheless.
