Harry Potter may have been extremely popular before Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone made it to the big screen, but the movie was still able to attract even more fans, including myself. The first Harry Potter movie was by far one of the best in the series (so far). Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone brought loved characters to life for the first time. While fans of the series may not have been thrilled with some of the actors who were cast, they still flocked to the film. But, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone wasn't flawless. Here are just are a few of the mistakes found in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Movie Mistakes: Snake Winks at Harry

In one of the first scenes of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, we see a huge mistake. In the movie, Harry Potter is conversing with a snake that winks at him. Why is this such a big mistake? Snakes don't have eyelids, which would make it impossible for them to wink.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Movie Mistakes: Glasses With and Without Lenses

Throughout the movie Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Dumbledore's and Harry's glasses have lenses, off and on. In one scene, their glasses may have lenses and then in the next not have them.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Movie Mistakes: Ripped Letters

In the classic scene of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone where the Dursley home is bombarded with letters, we see Uncle Vernon ripping up the letters as fast as possible. If you look closely, you can see that the letters have been slightly torn to make it easier for the actor to rip them quickly.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Movie Mistakes: American Language

Before the induction ceremony begins, Professor McGonagall tells the students that the ceremony will begin momentarily. Americans wouldn't think anything of this, because Americans know that momentarily means "in a moment". But, in the UK momentarily means "for a moment", which doesn't make much sense in that sentence. This is a movie mistake because Professor McGonagall would not be speaking American English at Hogwarts.

Hmm, the glasses without lenses - probably for filming reasons. They should have just left them out. Fun article!

That's a good point about the snake winking. I hadn't thought of that, but you're right that snakes can't wink if they have no eyelids! Sophie
